One teenage boy was found dead only a few days after being wrongly blamed of taking the ashes of a deceased baby during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Finding

The young boy's parents found his body in his room at his Connah's Quay home on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Begin

The investigation heard how his mother received a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if Kai was her offspring. The communication added: "Inform him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, claiming her infant's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was false.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from police later determined the supposed break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "it now appears that the property was not stolen in the first place".

News coverage about the supposed taken remains attracted social media comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she said.

Emotional Health Impact

She explained that her son had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' opinions genuinely mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "especially when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at home, but nothing was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not reached out to the relatives by the moment of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her son told her he had gone into the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that one 19-year-old encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "caring, loving" boy, and said her "family is totally shattered".

He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The inquest received testimony from school staff at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On 8 November, she "heard some students talking that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the conversation, the educator said she rang Kai's family landline and left a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.

The court learned his family said they never receive that message.

Formal Conclusion

Lead coroner told the inquest he would await reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Delivering a descriptive conclusion, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Probably untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"During 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and following his questioning he was freed whilst inquiries continued."

The official determined: "There is no evidence that the acts or failures of any agency led to or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his purpose."
